Sugo is great at Tommy Sugo

This wintery evening we stopped in at Tommy Sugo, a pop up store located at Stimulatte Café in Subiaco. Pop up, meaning the coffee centric café transforms into a pasta serving eatery in the evenings from 5pm. It's a cool concept and the name is somewhat catchy too. Fresh pasta and great ingredients combined with an Italian heritage are three standouts from Tommy Sugo’s story and philosophy. Worth a read if you are interested ...

Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant

There is something undeniably festive about gathering around German food and jugs of beer. For a friend's birthday on Saturday night just gone, a group of us spent the evening at the fairly new, Brotzeit German Bier Bar and Restaurant for a mighty or should I say, meaty feast! Brotzeit is located in 140 Perth,  a snazzy building development above the Perth underground train station. Various art installations decorate the lanes that intersect and ...

Finding delicious Vietnamese at Mama Tran, Claremont

A few new places have surfaced in the Claremont area over the past six months and one of them is Vietnamese eatery, Mama Tran. The Claremont branch is located on the exterior of Claremont Quarter next to Yamato Kaiten Sushi and on the corner of St Quentin Ave & Bovell Lane. We've had a good dinner in the past at the Milligan street branch and knowing the menu is exactly the ...

German evenings at The Rhein Donau Club

Celebrating a friend's birthday, a group of us spent a Saturday evening at the Rhein Donau Club in Myaree. The interior of the club is very much old school European and I doubt much has changed since it opened in 1959. Features of wood constructed booths, lanterns and alpine trimmings add to the European charm.  I notice an emblem carved into the dining chairs. Being non club members we paid a small ...

La Mousse Cafe & Patisserie

I treasure a cafe where one can sit down in peace with no real pressure to rush one's coffee, this would be one of the reasons I frequent La Mousse Cafe & Patisserie in the western suburbs of Mount Claremont. We took advantage of the short sunny period and occupied the outside table in the peaceful surroundings of the community centre. The glass cabinet houses a number of handmade macarons, slices ...

Terrace Hotel, Perth CBD

The Terrace Hotel opened with much anticipation last November (2012) and in good fashion it held the ultimate stylish VIP party for the social elites of Perth, the six star hotel boasts a 20 million dollar refurbishment and attracts a string of corporate high flyers who prefer the West End location of St Georges Terrace. More importantly though and rightly so is the heritage of the building, The Terrace Hotel was formerly the St ...

Superstar Waffles, Northbridge

There are some great places along William Street in Northbridge and I would definitely say the area offers more than clubs and bars these days! Finally! Backpacker travel agents, vintage fashion stores, tiny coffee places, casual eating places, hidden bars all create a Northbridge worth seeing! SuperstarWaffles is a new dessert shop to hit the scene and it is tucked away in the dimly lit Arcade 189. Attention to detail is all over this cafe  from ...

Swiss Cakes from Francois in Leederville

Francois is a Swiss Patisserie located in Leederville, a few metres from the lively Oxford street.  The patisserie has been around since 1998 serving sweet patisserie cakes, coffee and sandwiches. They also offer catering for events. The passionfruit and chocolate mousse caught my eye. The rich chocolate mousse was encased in a light fluffy almond sponge and on top was a layer of passion fruit mousse with two small pieces of fruit.  In one mouthful ...

Cakes and Coffee at Choux Cafe

Sunday morning, its windy, dark and wet. Little did we know of a storm was due to hit the area later in the afternoon. For the moment though we head to a neighbourhood French patisserie known as Choux Cafe. We managed to secure a table inside and ordered our regular coffees and cakes at the counter. There was a new cake (photo above) in the glass cabinet of which I apologise, ...
